I did not grow up among the stars in Hollywood or on a stage on Broadway, but rather in Greater Cincinnati. Not knocking this city at all. I <3 Cincinnati, honestly. My humble roots have given me a stomping ground for movie loving that I would not trade for anything.

Throughout high school and college I dabbled in theatrical works spanning from improve, short films, musical theater, and voice acting. During this time I also launched a career in management at my local movie theater. That was probably the funnest time I have ever and will ever have in my life. Over that time period I saw a LOT of movies, as they where all free to me. It was a blast. It was during that time that I coined the nickname “that movie girl”, which I fully own up to. Twelve years flew by and so did my love for the customer service aspect of the job. I was soon to be a PR graduate and needed to spread my wings.

One of the best times I ever had was interning at a movie marketing company. It was my job to promote the new releases by viewing them before the public, planning themed parties, and sometimes even pulling promotional stunts. In one instance it was my job to visit local radio stations, dressed in character to promote the re-make of Carrie. This was sort of a big deal to me due to my strange attachment to the horror genre. Needless to say, it was a bloody good time! (hardy har har)

Now I am a PR practitioner working in promotions for a website design company. When I was given a chance to launch this site, I thought, “what would be better than doing movie reviews?”! Sure, I’m writing for popcorn kernels, but I absolutely love it! If you understand my passion and enjoy my writing, please let me know! Shoot me a line or just tell me! My Influences & Inspirations

Everyone’s tastes are different. Mine are a bit of a mixed bag. I kind of go on a scale from Broadway to Fangoria. I have a wide spectrum of loves. Of course, they might have made me bias to certain genres, but I still try to stay open-minded. Here are just a few that have made me the lover of cinema that I am today:

Labyrinth

This movie has stolen my heart and I don’t think it intends on ever giving it back.

It’s musically mesmerizing feel will live on as a cult classic for many that share the love. If I had to rate this movie today I would give it big pluses in artistic style and music. It’s brilliant work in the puppet industry gives it high marks that may not be seen again in our digital age.

The music is the very foundation for this fun filled fantasy. Bowie could not have been a better nemesis. Jim Henson has always rocked my socks with the Muppets and will forever live in my heart as a true visionary.

Kill Bill V.I & V.II

I can always go for a stylish ass kicking with some killer fun dialogue. This movie is just that and gives me glory whenever I’m feeling low. 

I know, I know… I didn’t pick Pulp Fiction out of all the Tarantino’s, but this one sings to me. The first installment lays the ground work in a flashy fun way and the second delves deeper into characterization and story line. I feel the whole equals as an awesome journey that is unforgettable.

Also, I must add, as a woman, Uma gives 100%. She is always so very different in all of her roles and takes them to heart. She’s my girl.

Nightmare on Elm Street

As horror goes, this one takes my cake. It’s a cult classic that will stay on my shelf until I can only visit through dreams.  

When thinking of great story lines and leading characters throughout the years we must  give credit where credit is due. It seems originality has been difficult to achieve today with all the horrible remakes floating around (here’s to you Michael Bay…). Wes Craven and Robert Englund together made grade A product when it came to this idea.

It’s often a pain for us horror fans to find good work these days to drool over. If there is one thing I can count on though, it is that I can sleep easy at night knowing Freddy is there for me.

Mary Poppins

If you want a feel good musical that makes you want to fly a kite, Mary Poppins has the best medicine around. 

I might have just thrown this is in for the fun of it, but it makes magic happen every time for me. I think I burned it out for my family when I was little, but it really never gets old. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are sensational in they’re portrayal.

I also fell in love with the mixture of animation and live action. The musical numbers burst off the screen. The writer of Mary’s story might not have been exactly enthused with the making of this movie, but there’s no doubt that it really can bring joy to a gloomy day.
