I believe this film was buried at the time of it’s release. It is not as well known by the main majority as certain others that where released within the same year, such as The Matrix, American Beauty, Fight Club, and The Green Mile. I think it had some tough competition and hit the back burner. Does it deserve the back burner of movie greatness? Perhaps… but certainly not in it’s own genre. This one deserves attention for being bad-ass.

When it comes to vigilante justice, gang violence, dedicated detectives, and Boston one thing rings true; it must be bad ass. This movie is very much that. If you are looking for depth and real substance though, you might have a hard time here. It’s really just a fun ride. Reedus and Flanery give us the warm and fuzzy’s for justly killings, doing so with conviction which gives it’s viewers the green light to enjoy it. Dafoe’s role is possibly one of the most memorable characters in the story due to Dafoe’s expertise in playing the deranged genius time and time again. The way the story is told is interesting and inventive. It gives a unique unfolding of events. My only criticism is that you might have to turn up your volume a tad, due to all of the heavy accents and quick dialogue. I’ll have to admit though, I’m a sucker for great accents. They impress me if done right, which they are here.

If you enjoyed such movie favorites as Goodfellas, The Departed,  and The Godfather then the odds are pretty high that you will enjoy this one.
