In this sequel to “The Emperor’s New Groove,” former meddler Kronk (Patrick Warburton) has turned over a new leaf and now runs a bustling pizza parlor in an Incan village. When Kronk hears that his judgmental father, Papi (John Mahoney), plans to visit, he scrambles to raise money to impress him. And, just when it seems as if he might succeed, Kronk’s evil former employer, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), appears, with an eye toward drawing him back into her crooked ways.

Now, don’t get me wrong. This is not as good as Emperor’s New Groove. That one seems unreachable, to me because I put it on a pretty high pedestal. BUT if you have little one’s, planning this movie night is a must. I always thought sequels, especially one’s that go strait to video, (for lack of a better word) blow. For the longest time, I pretended like this one did not exist. Curiosity finally found me and I watched it. Amazingly, I was sucked in. It has all the original characters (and voices-SUPER IMPORTANT to me). I was amazed to figure out that Eartha Kitt was Yzma (the main antagonist). Now I will forever imagine Yzma singing Santa Baby… ha!
If you loved the characters as I do, then you will enjoy this, due to it’s character driven schematics.
It centers around some economic and societal issues that might go right over the little one’s heads, but basic principles still stand strong. It focuses on the human condition and our tendencies to forgo doing “the right thing”. It contains a number of short stories that wrap it all up in the end. A great one for kids learning compassion, humility, and selflessness. There where so many feels that got me. I’m an easy target though. Another thing I love is when everyone breaks into song, which happens a few times. Don’t pay attention to what the critics say on this one (cause it’s mostly not good). I’m extremely critical when it comes to animated features and always have my guard up. This one slipped through and pulled on my heart strings. Glad it did!
