First off… if you know me then you might catch that I love pretty sparkling happy singing stuff! It’s ingrained inside of me and might never die (let’s hope not). Just the thought of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling dancing and singing sold me pretty well. I was hooked! All of the signs where right! It has been labeled “a film for dreamers”-checkmark, that’s me..! But use caution… Now don’t get the wrong idea. It’s swell and all, but one thing will always be true about dreaming; you must at some point wake up. That phenomenon may be true, but doesn’t have to be in movies though right?! This is also the thing about me. I never really want to wake up. I’d stay dreaming forever if given the chance.
Getting down to it’s moving parts though, it’s of the most superb art direction. It really captured a vintage feel that it needed to stand out. The location was perfect as well. The sets and backdrops really complimented it’s narrative. It gives you an old-timely feel, but with a fun modern script that anyone with a love of the stage will appreciate. Stone and Gosling soar among the stars with their given roles, no surprise there.
Another key player in this film was the score and musical numbers. If you are a fan of Jazz then it’s a must see. The songs stick with you and are honestly really fun. I have to say that I was slightly on the fence about watching it again, but I think the music really just pushes me over to see it once more.
There’s no denying how good it really is. It swept the Golden Globes and is nominated for a lot of Oscars. Just know that if you are a dreamer you might want to bring some tissues.
