Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.

My proverbial hat is once again off as Marvel usually never fails to impress – it did not fall short here. Even in what I thought was a risky move having yet another actor coming in and another story line to familiarize myself with, it prevailed on it’s own (well… maybe there was some help from some Avenger friends…). With the mashup of the Avenger Universe getting closer, this one’s story line was very interwoven with Tony Stark and Co. I believe that really added to the excitement and fun and let’s face it, Tony Stark (Robert Downy Jr.) is kind of the greatest. He’s given the best lines and situations to really shine and never disappoints.
Tom Holland came out of nowhere and impressed me, not only with his portrayal, but the kid is a gymnast so a lot of the crazy moves he sports, he actually does himself. He is a carefree fun Peter Parker, much like Toby McGuire was (but he actually looks like he could be 16.. ha). Andrew Garfield was good, but more serious and full of angst. I like to have fun when I watch super hero digs, especially with Spider-Man. The rest of the teen cast where right as rain. I heard a review before I viewed the film that the teenage lines and mannerisms would get wearing (and I don’t know if I was more cognoscente of that), but that really didn’t bother me at all. This is coming from a person who sometimes can’t stand the standard teenage portrayal. Marisa Tomei is a hot aunt May, but why not? I always thought it was kind of weird when they would make her so old when Peter Parker isn’t even an adult yet. Lastly I’ll mention an obvious talent that did his role justice as always, Michael Keaton. From the beginning I knew making him the bad guy was a great idea. He has the “angry guy turns vigilante thing” down well.
Of course as we zoom through time these movies will just keep getting better and better special effects-wise, so I think it just suffices to say, it’s beautiful. Spider-Man seemingly could be difficult because he’s all over the place, but Marvel has a lot of super heroes to practice on and get the cinematography right. It’s the perfect way to sit back and suspend your disbelief for 2 hours. I can’t imagine some one having too many qualms about this one. Just in-case I haven’t mentioned it enough, the Marvel Universe is just brimming with awesomeness and this just adds to it!
