It’s been a while since I rated a movie a watch again and again and again. Well, that time has ended. After this movie was over I was ready to go to the next showing. Yes, it’s that good. If you are a fan of video games and high energy thrills then don’t miss this, especially on the big screen. I was a little salty that I didn’t buy a 3D ticket. I haven’t really wanted to pay the up-cost until now. This one would probably be worth the money. Ready Player One contained some of the best special effects that money can buy at this day and age. I was fully entertained and blown away. I do have to confess that going in I did not have high of expectations, so that might have played a role. Really though, Hollywood rule of thumb says that you should never question Steven Spielberg. It’s honestly true.
The “players” in this where new to me, but that didn’t keep them from shining. Half, maybe even more, of the movie is in the “virtual world” so they just voice the characters but was still inclined to follow them to the end. Hopefully this sparks up their careers. The villains played somewhat of cookie-cutter cast of corrupt big conglomerate bad guys, which was fine. This gave the film a Spielberg nod as he tends to do that. It would have been a bit odd feeling to have the villains as truly serious and dark.
A huge trend as of recent is the window into the future. There are lots of shows and movies with interesting portrayals of what we should expect. I felt Ready Player One shows an truly realistic vision into what that might be. We are moving closer and closer to unique AI technology and virtual reality is already a big thing. Just wait until it becomes affordable and perfected. We might see an addicted society. The whole message after all is said and done really gives silver lining to it all. I’m not going to give it away, but it makes me feel better. Go see it. Now.
